Marvel Way Complex
An apartment complex for women during their journeys with sober living.
A Northern Nevada First.
We’re Helping Women in Recovery Create Long-Term Success Stories.
The Marvel Way Complex is the first of its kind in Northern Nevada. It will be modeled after recovery focused housing projects in other states, combined with The Empowerment Center’s significant experience with recovery, to create long-term success stories. This long term housing option will ensure that people leaving any of our areas treatment centers never have to return to previous, toxic living environments where alcohol and drug abuse remain a part of daily life.
The Marvel Way Complex will ensure all individuals in recovery will have real options for a better future.
Our goal is to ensure all individuals are set up for long term success when they graduate our community supported programs. Unfortunately, the affordable housing shortage crisis has made it nearly impossible for individuals truly seeking to change their lives to take the next step into safe longer term housing.
We are not alone. Twelve other area treatment and healthcare providers are experiencing the same challenge, and support this low cost housing program.
Combined for Success
The most strategic and cost-effective way to ensure long term success for persons suffering from the challenge of addiction is to partner low-income housing with community-based support services.
The Empowerment Center is committed to meeting our community’s need for affordable, safe, and sober housing by building and maintaining the Marvel Way Complex.
This housing complex has broken ground in Summer 2021, initiating the creation of Nevada’s first 42-unit Recovery Housing or “sober living” residence. This housing option is for individuals committed to a clean and sober lifestyle.
The Empowerment Center will promote a mutually supportive community where individuals can build the life skills necessary to sustain their recovery. We believe collaboration is key to creating a successful recovery-based housing program. Partnership agreements with healthcare and other treatment providers are already in progress to ensure that sustained supportive housing is established in Reno.
In addition to providing shelter, the project will provide on-site services, including 12-Step meetings, job training, life skills coaching and related supportive services, as well as referrals to local service organizations to help tenants maintain housing, focus on recovery, and self-sufficiency.

A three-acre parcel was purchased through a generous gift. The complex will be located on Marvel Way, a perfect location near buses, employment, and education. Although it’s in the center of town, the block does not have city water, sewer, or gas utilities. With the extraordinary amount of infrastructure required to move the project forward, the total infrastructure budget is $772,335. To date, $455,000 has been raised, which leaves a shortfall of $317,335.
On October 10, 2019 1505—1585 Marvel Way was purchased. Our efforts are being led by Roxanne DeCarlo, The Empowerment Center Board of Directors and assistance from a volunteer committee determined to realize the vision for this life-changing project.
